  1. My portrayal pulls from primarily pre-n52 themes & what I enjoy from post-n52. I will reference the following as completely canon to my portrayal: batman: sword of azrael, knightfall saga, no man's land, azrael, sword of azrael & dark knight of the soul, and arkham city: order of the world.

  2. I will utilize characterization from agent of the bat, detective comics, justice league odyssey & various rebirth-era comics liberally. Agent of the Bat is just because I want to explore themes that Jean-Paul has already worked out because it's a finished series. His writing in the other works leave a bit much to be desired (except for Dan Watters & Ram V's recent work for him).

  3. Batman & Robin Eternal is only very loosely considered. It's canon to my portrayal that Jean-Paul went back to the Order in Santa Prisca, but not much else. I follow the origin set in SOA '23 over this.

  4. Azbats has a lot of tie-ins during his run that I still have yet to read, like his stint with the Outsiders. I will get to these as I'm able to read them, but if you want an interaction based on a Knightfall-era tie-in, please let me know and I'll push it higher on my reading list.

  5. I retain his close friendships with Barbara, Cassandra & Leslie. Accounts will be approached with some familiarity; if you don't know what their relationship is but still want to interact, please let me know and we can talk about it. I also retain the concept that JPV has slight feelings for Barbara, mostly because he is very inexperienced & easily confused, and thus confuses romantic & platonic feelings for each other if not firmly separated. That doesn't mean I'm looking for a ship between the two, it'll just affect deeper interactions.

  6. On that note... my portrayal in general focuses more on them learning to live as an independent adult while managing the "holy work" he's dedicated himself to. Similar to his post-NML arc.

  1. Jean-Paul Valley and Azrael are a system, operating under some comic book logic so how they operate is not 100% accurate to a real case of Dissociative Identity Disorder. They operate in a state of acknowledging that they are two separate people that both stem from the same person; their desires and feelings are not completely separate. Their interests are the same but splinter in preferences; for example, Azrael prefers high-end theatre productions while Jean-Paul prefers low-end productions & movies. Instability comes from separating Azrael from Jean-Paul, any long-term narrative where there's an attempt to dehumanize Azrael will directly impact his self-esteem and cause several issues. His perception of himself usually hinges on how other people see him, although he is better at this after the events of Sword of Azrael #6.

  2. Jean-Paul tends to speak in a generally polite & average way, while Azrael on his own speaks in a more harsh & old-fashioned manner. When acting together, this usually combines to a a more brusque version of Jean-Paul's typical speech.

  3. While his faith has helped him manage his anxiety, maintain stability and helps him be a better person, his relationship with it is not perfectly healing. He can spend hours pacing and praying to self-soothe as a compulsion, neglecting care of himself and his surroundings for it. He sees God as the Father as he did with Ludovic, St. Dumas & subsequently Batman, and thus desires to see His approval. While he is not as reliant on approval from an older figure anymore, he is still relatively malleable & vulnerable to long-term manipulation.

  4. I usually assume that he is on his current mission of tracking down traces of the Knights' Templar to save them from themselves with Karl & Vengeance. For ease of RP I don't assume they live together and work together but slightly separately; if you're RPing either of them and want to discuss them let me know. I am very open to them being roommates.
